6th Head & Neck Cancer Symposium, Walk for Talk Fundraiser for Dysphonia International, and PYV!

Tuesday Toss Up: 6th Head and Neck Cancer Symposium for the Advanced Practitioner

Had a reeeally REALLY awesome experience October 14-15 at the 6th Head and Neck Cancer Symposium for the Advanced Practitioner in Chicago!… What an INCREDIBLE conference filled with amazing speakers and talks full of great content on all the new research and insights related to the diagnosis and treatment of all things head and neck cancer.

.

LOVED learning from a variety of medical professionals including laryngologists, head/neck surgeons, ENTs, radiation oncologists, maxilofacial prosthodontists, dentists, integrative medicine practitioners, and speech pathologists. LOVED hanging with colleagues and meeting new ones… And just soaking up the joy of continuing education in this wonderful subset specialty of speech pathology… Always with the goal of improving patient care and outcomes, instilling HOPE and encouragement in patients who have to journey through an unbelievable amount of difficult change and challenge, and ensuring I am practicing the most up-to-date diagnostics and treatment methods guided by evidence based medicine.

Even though the majority of my time is spent in caring for VOICE and UPPER AIRWAY-related patients, I do see quite a bit of dysphagia and head/neck cancer as well… And I absolutely love expanding my horizons within these realms and learning from others who are so skilled in these areas. This was my first conference focused solely on the management of head/neck cancer, and I really enjoyed it. Huge thank you to ATOS medical and University of Chicago Medicine for putting together such a great meeting.

Hump Day Health: Walk for Talk Fundraiser for Dysphonia International

SUCH an INCREDIBLE Walk for Talk event this past weekend!!

I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing organization and also to help lead our local Valley of the Sun support group. Our local in-person Walk was lots of fun and comprised of support group members, family, friends, medical professionals, pets, and grad students from ASU! It was led by one of our group leaders (Esther), who was one of the creators of the Walk for Talk and has lived victoriously with laryngeal dystonia for decades. She boldly gave a beautiful speech prior to the start of our walk and is such an inspiring light of positivity and forward thinking.

.

Walk for Talk is the year’s largest fundraiser and “awareness raiser” for laryngeal dystonias and the mission of Dysphonia International (formerly National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association), and the event has already raised over $100,000! Also, donations supporting the Walk will be accepted until 10/31/22 if you’d like to contribute. Check the link in my bio or dysphonia.org for more info!

Huge THANKS to everyone who has participated, donated, sponsored, or supported Walk for Talk in some way. WE WALK to expand awareness, support others, and raise funds for research. Every step gets us closer to a cure!

How are YOU prioritizing your voice today? And everyday? As an OCCUPATIONAL VOICE USER, it should be one of your top priorities!
.

.
What do you need to know to keep your voice healthy?  You should understand how the voice works, how to protect and care for your voice, and how to use your voice and entire vocal mechanism in the most efficient, effective, and dynamic ways possible.
.
.
I’m super PASSIONATE about this population of voice users (I’m one and most of you are too!), and am HERE TO HELP! Reach out with any questions, concerns, or if you’d like to work together. Email me at [email protected]
